Chiropractor reviewing a spine X-ray on screen at the Absolute Health Mooloolaba clinic
Advanced Diagnostics · Mooloolaba

Full-spine imaging, lowest possible dose

Ultra-low-dose, full-spine digital X-ray at our Mooloolaba clinic - used only when it's clinically necessary to diagnose your spine accurately.

Imaging, only when it helps

X-rays are not always necessary

We don't X-ray everyone. Imaging is only recommended when it's clinically necessary: when we genuinely need to see the underlying bone structure to make an accurate diagnosis, rule out anything serious, and choose the safest, most effective treatment. For many people, a thorough history and a hands-on functional assessment tell us what we need to know.

When an X-ray is warranted, it does three important things: it confirms the right diagnosis, it helps us select the best treatment method for your spine, and it lets us set realistic expectations for how long your care should take.

A genuine point of difference

When imaging is the right call, the way we do it sets us apart

Ultra-low-dose full-spine DR

We use the Longtail DR, delivering at least 50% less radiation than traditional full-spine imaging.

Structure + function

X-ray shows your spine's structure; MotionIQ measures its function. Together they give the full picture.

Whole spine, one image

Your entire spine captured in a single exposure: no stitching, less radiation, better accuracy.

The technology

The Longtail DR: your whole spine in a single exposure

Most clinics still image the spine in sections and stitch the films together, which means more exposures and more radiation. The Longtail DR is different - a single 44-inch (112 cm) flat-panel detector that captures your entire spine, neck to pelvis, in one exposure, with no stitching and no gaps.

Because it's one image instead of several, it delivers at least 50% less radiation than traditional full-spine imaging, while keeping the geometric accuracy we need to measure your spine and posture precisely. That means the best possible information at the lowest practical dose.

Structure & function

Measured together, so nothing is left to guesswork

An X-ray and a movement assessment answer two different questions. We use both.

X-ray = structure

Shows the underlying bone structure of your spine: alignment, posture, joint spacing, degeneration and any abnormalities that need to be ruled in or out.

MotionIQ = function

Measures how your spine actually moves: joint motion, restrictions and functional asymmetry that a static image alone cannot show. About MotionIQ →

Digital X-ray FAQs

No. We only recommend imaging when it's clinically necessary to diagnose your spine accurately or to rule out something serious. Many patients are assessed and treated without any X-ray at all.

Our Longtail DR captures your whole spine in a single exposure with at least 50% less radiation than traditional full-spine imaging - and we only image when it's genuinely needed.

It's a single 44-inch flat-panel detector that captures the entire spine in one shot, with no stitching, full geometric accuracy and a much lower dose than conventional full-spine X-rays.

An X-ray shows your spine's structure, while MotionIQ assesses how your spine moves (its function). Used together, they give a complete, measurable picture so your diagnosis and treatment are based on data, not guesswork.

It can. Seeing your structure and measuring your function helps us choose the best treatment method for you and set a realistic timeframe for your care.

On-site at our Mooloolaba clinic, in a purpose-built radiology room - so there's no need to travel to a separate imaging provider.
