Absolute Health Chiropractic And Physiotherapy Adjustment

Chiropractic is the art, science and philosophy of adjusting the human body into correct alignment and function, to allow the body to heal itself.

The nervous system is the part of he body that controls all the functions of the human body. The brain initiates a signal and transmits it via the spinal cord and nerves to every cell, tissue and organ in the body. Without interference to this transmission the body should be able to heal itself when it is damaged or functions incorrectly. Unfortunately, due to the way we live our life, we are prone to damaging our body, which causes interruption in this transmission of information from the brain to the body. When this occurs at a joint, we call is a subluxation. The term subluxation, is purely a term Chiropractors use to explain an area of dysfunction in a joint, which causes altered nerve and muscle function. This is the “Philosophy” of chiropractic…. in other words this is why we do what we do!

The art of Chiropractic is the practical application of removing any of these areas of dysfunction (subluxation). Just like any profession or industry, many different ways have been developed to achieve this. Our Chiropractors are trained in a range of different techniques ranging from low force, or non-manipulative (no”cracking”) techniques, to the more traditional manual manipulative techniques used for over 100 years. The practical techniques used to remove areas of body dysfunction are often called “adjustments”, but often vary in technique.

This science of Chiropractic is the research behind what we do and why we do it. As with any research there are always flaws, however a good starting point for the research behind chiropractic is here, or here.

Numerous research studies have shown that regular chiropractic adjustments give the body the ability to express a greater state of health and wellbeing naturally, without the use of drugs or surgery.

Subluxations

Subluxation is a term quite often used by Chiropractors. It refers to an area of the body that is out of its normal position, moving incorrectly, or inteferring with “normal” body function. Subluxations occur due to stress (see below) in the body, and this stress is more than the body can accomodate. These stresses can be broken up into three main categories:

  • Physical stress such as trauma, posture, sleeping positions and exercise.
  • Biochemical stress such as poor nutrition, prescription drugs, illegal drugs and pollution.
  • Psychological stress such as relationship stress and job stress.

Although you may not experience any effects from subluxations initially, symptoms such as headaches, back pain, neck stiffness, pain or numbness in your arms, hands, legs, or feet, and various other signs and symptoms can be indications of subluxations. Most of the problems we see as Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Medical Doctors are caused by long term dysfunction, rather than a short term injury.

In addition to eliminating subluxations and maintaining your spine and nervous system on a regular basis, we can teach you how to manage these three types of stressors to prevent you from re-creating the same subluxations over and over. We are one of the only clinics in Australia that has both Chiropractors and Physiotherapists working together to get the best results for each and every patient. At Absolute Health, your long term health is our priority.
