Golf physiotherapy, built around your swing

A TPI golf assessment screens how your body moves, then links those findings to what happens in your swing. Delivered by our TPI-certified physiotherapist at Mooloolaba and Nambour.

The Body-Swing Connection

What is a TPI assessment?

Golf is a rotational sport played at high speed. When a joint or muscle group can't do its job, the swing compensates somewhere else - and that's where pain and lost distance usually start.

The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) has studied thousands of golfers since 2003, from Tour professionals to weekend players, to understand how the body's physical capacity shapes the golf swing. TPI calls this the Body-Swing Connection.

TPI doesn't teach one model swing. Its starting point is that there are countless valid swing styles, but there is one efficient swing for each player, and it depends on what that player's body can physically do. The only way to find it is to screen the body first.

How it works

What happens in a TPI golf assessment

The assessment takes place in the clinic. You don't need your clubs for the physical screen - just clothes you can move in.

01

History & goals

Injuries, playing history and what you want more of - distance, consistency, or fewer sore mornings after a round.

02

Physical screen

A series of simple movement tests covering rotation, mobility, balance and control, following the TPI screening protocol.

03

Findings, mapped to your swing

Each restriction is linked to the swing characteristics it tends to produce, such as early extension, sway or loss of posture.

04

Your plan

Hands-on treatment where it's needed, plus a targeted exercise program. We can share findings with your golf coach so physical work and swing changes pull in the same direction.

The screen

What we look at

The screen tests the physical qualities a golf swing draws on most. None of the tests are strenuous, and most people find at least one result surprising.

Hip rotationInternal rotation on both your trail and lead hip
Thoracic spineHow well your mid-back rotates independently of your pelvis
Shoulder mobilityRange needed at the top of the backswing and through impact
Wrist & forearmHinge and rotation that control the club face
Pelvis controlWhether you can tilt and rotate your pelvis on demand
BalanceSingle-leg stability on each side
SeparationUpper body rotating independently of the lower body - the engine of clubhead speed
Strength & powerThe capacity behind distance, tested where relevant to your goals
Who it's for

Golfers who get the most out of TPI screening

Back pain during or after a round
Recurring elbow, shoulder or knee trouble
Losing distance or clubhead speed
Lessons aren't sticking
Juniors building a swing that will last
Senior golfers who want to keep playing

Your physiotherapist

Screened by a TPI-certified physiotherapist

Geoff Villacis is TPI Certified and dual-qualified as a physiotherapist and exercise physiologist. He plays golf himself, and his background in elite sport includes work with professional tennis players on the ATP and Challenger Tours.

That combination matters here. The screen identifies the restriction, physiotherapy treats it, and exercise physiology builds the strength and mobility program that keeps it from coming back. Geoff handles all three, and he's happy to work alongside your golf coach or PGA professional.

FAQ

TPI assessment questions

No. The screen is about your body, not your handicap. Weekend golfers often gain the most, because a restriction that a Tour player would have had managed years ago is usually still sitting there untouched.

Comfortable clothes you can move in. You don't need your clubs for the physical screen. If you have a recent lesson video or launch-monitor data, bring it along - it helps us connect the physical findings to your swing.

No. We're not swing coaches and we don't pretend to be. Our job is the physical side: finding and treating the restrictions that limit what your swing can do. With your permission we share the screen results with your coach, who can then work with what your body actually allows.

Back pain is the most common reason golfers come to see us. The swing puts repeated rotational load through the spine, and when the hips or mid-back don't rotate well, the lower back ends up doing work it isn't built for. The screen shows us why the load is concentrating where it hurts, which is what a standard "rest and stretch" approach misses.

TPI assessments run as standard physiotherapy consultations, so if your extras cover includes physiotherapy you can claim as usual. We have HICAPS in the clinic for on-the-spot claims.

Geoff consults at both our clinics - Mooloolaba and Nambour. Book online with Geoff Villacis, or call Mooloolaba on (07) 5478 2333 or Nambour on (07) 5441 4768 and mention you'd like a TPI golf assessment.
